THE annual collection of gift-filled shoeboxes has been launched at Queen Street Methodist Church.
Operation Christmas Child organiser Ros Dyson said that she was pleased with the number of volunteers who turned out to pack 300 boxes to kick.
She said: “It’s amazing. There are new people that haven’t been here before and those that have heard about it or have been brought along by their friends.”
Each of the shoeboxes are wrapped in Christmas paper and filled with a variety of items including: crayons, books, soaps, flannels, toys, sweets, hats, scarves and gloves. Mrs Dyson said: “We use anything that a child would be pleased to receive at Christmas.”
Boyes and The Catalogue Shop in Scarborough have donated shoeboxes.
