Final preparations are being made for the sixth annual Armed Forces Day in Scarborough on Saturday.
An action packed programme of events awaits the crowds that are expected to flock to the coastal town to pay tribute to the UK Armed Forces and share in the day’s celebrations.
The day runs from 11.30am until 5pm starting with a Freedom Parade through the town centre and down to South Bay by the 1st Battalion (1 YORKS) of The Yorkshire Regiment, which is set to be a dignified spectacle of colour, military poise and precision.
One of the main highlights of this year’s event is a thrilling display at 2.15pm by the Avro Vulcan XH558, the oldest complete Vulcan in the world. It will transit over Filey at around 2.05pm on its way to Scarborough and will also transit over Whitby at 2.25pm as it heads north after the display,
On Monday pupils from Barrowcliff Junior School joined the Mayor of Scarborough, cllr Pat Marsburg, members of the Royal British Legion and local cadets to raise the Armed Forces Day Flag at the town hall,
Cllr Marsburg said: “Together with thousands of other communities up and down the country, the people of the borough have shown their support for the many men and women who are dedicated to serving our country in the Armed Forces.
It is a privilege for the Mayoress and I to be involved.”
