THE Cotton Club returns to the Grand Hotel on Sunday, when Dave Clegg’s Dance Band will call the tunes.
“This year the Cotton Club is concentrating on providing opportunities for people to dance to live music,” said Dave.
“These events are perfect for dancers of any ability, whether you are experienced or just starting out. So many people now have to put up with dancing to recorded music, yet this is the real thing – dancing to a Palais-style dance band usually of six musicians and two singers.”
Dave moved to Scarborough when he became musical director of the Two Bs club in St Thomas Street. Since then he has been resident bandleader on several P&O and Cunard cruise liners and has worked for all the major holiday companies and theatrical agencies.
Joining Dave will be trumpeter Alan Cobbett, saxophonist Ralph Alder and trombonist Tony Turner. The rhythm section has Dave on piano, Bob Malinowski on bass and Andy Crofts on drums. The vocalists are Roger Maughan and Brenda Sharman.
Sunday’s performance, in the Grand’s first-floor Palm Court Room, is due to begin at 7.45pm and end at 10pm. Admission costs £5.
