A Scalby healthy eating group has banded together to help a member and her friend raise money for a clarity scanner for Hull Royal Infirmary.
Judy Woodroffe joined the Scalby Slimming World group in January 2014. The group is now working together to collect handbags and scarves to sell at a fundraising auction event to raise money for a cause close to Judy’s heart.
In May, a routine mammogram revealed a lump in her breast and Judy had to undergone surgery in Scarborough Hospital. She then travelled to Hull Royal Infirmary every day for three weeks for a course of radiotherapy.
While having this treatment she met a woman named Liz who was going through the same procedures.
Judy said: “Her diagnosis was complicated because there was no clarity scanner. Because she couldn’t have this scan she had to have a deep biopsy which left her very bruised and very sore.
“She had been talking to the nurses in Hull and they don’t have a breast clarity scanner. She decided to set up and fundraise.”
So far the group now has 167 handbags and almost 200 scarves. Judy added: “We have had a fantastic response.”
Donate your handbags and scarves to Scalby Methodist Church, on Wednesdays at 7pm. or The Jubilee Hall, Cayton on Tuesdays at 5pm or 7pm.
