Scarborough residents have banded together to make sure the town’s children don’t miss out on a birthday cake.
Avid bakers have joined forces to set up a Free Cakes for Kids group in Scarborough and are now appealing for more volunteers to join in the baking fun.
A nationwide idea, volunteers design and bake birthday cakes for children who wouldn’t otherwise receive one.
The group have been in touch with local charities and social services and asked for them to request a cake to be made for a child’s birthday.
Organiser, Felicity Day said: “As a child my mum and dad always made me a birthday cake and I don’t like the idea that a child will not have a birthday cake. It’s a good opportunity to bake and hopefully make a child’s birthday a bit happier.”
They want as many volunteers as possible so hopefully they will be able to provide a birthday cake to all the children without one in Scarborough.
Felicity added: “It’s a great way to volunteer in your community even if you don’t have too much time on your hands.”
To volunteer get in touch with Felicity by emailing her on email@example.com or visit their Facebook page at Free Cakes for Kids Scarborough.
They plan to hold fundraising events and hope to receive support from local businesses.
