Girlguding Scarborough West Division has launched a recruitment drive and is looking to welcome new leaders and helpers.
Organisers are hoping that if enough people come forward, they will be able to reopen Seamer Rainbows and secure the future of other local Rainbow, Brownie and Guide groups.
Petra Jackson, division commissioner, said: “The number of girls wanting to take part is going up, but we just don’t have enough leaders.
“There is enough demand at some Brownie units to be able to open a second one.”
More help is needed across the board, but in particular at Seamer, Ayton and Northstead at the moment.
Petra said: “We are looking for anyone who is willing to give their time. A lot of us work full time and we appreciate that people have very busy lives.
“We can offer lots of flexibility with times. Meetings normally take an hour to an hour and a half, so if people can offer an hour a month, we can put them on a rota.
“Any time that people can give will be a huge help.”
Girls aged 16 and over can help and to become a leader, people need to be 18 and over. Leaders must retire at the age of 65, but they can stay on as helpers.
There are also roles available for men, but they cannot become a leader.
No experience is necessary and a full training programme is available, with full CRB checks carried out on all new recruits.
Petra said: “The main requirement is enthusiasm and being someone who likes children!
“Our volunteers really enjoy what they do. They get a lot out of it.
“We have social events and a lot of us have made very strong friendships from it.
“It’s also a great thing to have on your CV, especially if you want to go into teaching or childcare.”
Meetings tend to feature activities such as crafts, cooking and games, with groups also going on trips and adventure holidays.
Petra said: “We recently took 75 Brownies and Guides to Lincolnshire and they did canoeing, climbing, fencing and quad biking.
“We also take Guides to ‘The Big Gig’ every year at Wembley, which is an annual event just for Guides.”
