Hair-raising experience brings in charity cash

A FATHER and son braved a sponsored back wax to raise funds towards a charity bike ride from London to Paris.

Simon and David Jenkins, from family business GFP Home Heating, had the hair-raising treatment done at Sanctuary in Hanover Road.

Simon will be doing the 200-mile bike ride from September 9 to 12 along with friends Gill and Fred Smith.

A total of 27 people from all over the country will be taking part in the event in aid of Diabetes UK.

Simon’s wife Zoe, who is a company director at GFP, said: “It was the first time either of them had had their backs waxed and it will probably be the last!

“There were lots of screams and they said it really hurt, but they were quite hairy to start with.”

Mrs Jenkins added that the back wax raised £450 and everyone was delighted with the result.

She said: “Everyone taking part needs to raise £1,150 each and the joint total is up to £2,400, which is great.

“We’re grateful for the support we’ve had from local businesses.”

Mrs Jenkins said the riders were training hard and really looking forward to the event.
