RESPIRATORY treatment has been boosted at Scarborough Hospital after £26,000 was raised to buy new machines.
The four new Non-invasive Ventilators were funded by the Scarborough Hospital League of Friends.
Initially the group could only afford to buy two machines, but after a fundraising drive at their charity shop in Hanover Road, they managed to collect the extra £13,000 needed to buy all four.
Dr David Ford, consultant chest physician, said: “I would like to express my thanks to the league of friends for providing us with these vital pieces of equipment.”
The machines help patients suffering from pulmonary diseases, allowing them to be treated on a normal ward instead of intensive care.
Eleanor Paterson, chairman of the group and manager of the charity shop, said; “I would like to thank the volunteers and customers for their support.”
