A SCARBOROUGH man is taking on the 13-mile Great North Run in memory of his mum.

Andrew Overfield, from Eastfield, is gearing up to run the popular annual event in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.

The 29-year-old, who is a warehouse manager for Dunelm Mill in Seamer Road, will join 54,000 runners on the starting line for the race in Newcastle on Sunday.

Mr Overfield said: “My mum, Chris Overfield, bravely fought breast cancer twice but sadly lost her battle in November 2009.

“I am running the Great North Run in memory of her and also to help the thousands of others who are affected by breast cancer.

“I want to raise as much money as I can to help Breast Cancer Campaign to fund vital research.”

Mr Overfield also ran the Great North Run for the charity last year and is training hard for the event.

He said: “After running it last year, I know what to expect this time! I have been doing lots of training in preparation.

“It’s been hard work but will be worth it when I cross the finish line.”
