A WOMAN who suffered life-changing injuries due to a Scarborough surgeon’s errors is now planning to take up her favourite sport again.
Jo Roche, 42, of Bridlington, breathes through a tube in her neck after her vocal chord nerves were damaged during a routine procedure to remove her thyroid gland.
The operation was carried out at Scarborough Hospital by Mr Nayef El-Bhargouti. After the surgery, Jo she was unable to speak and had to undergo the tracheostomy to ensure she had a stable airway to enable her to breathe.
Last year, following a General Medical Council hearing, Mr El-Bhargouti was suspended from practising for 12 months.
Jo is now planning to swim again using special breathing apparatus.
