FUNDRAISERS enjoyed a “wheely” good event in aid of Scarborough-based charity Ellie’s Fund.
A sponsored cycle ride was held along the old railway line, with participants biking to either Hayburn Wyke or Ravenscar and back.
The event was organised by the Royal Engineers Association and attracted riders of all ages, from five to 75.
Ellie’s Fund was set up in memory of Scarborough teenager Ellie Othick-Bowmaker, who died after battling two brain tumours.
The fund, which has just passed the £50,000 mark, is helping eight children locally who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Ellie’s mum, Heather Othick, said: “The turnout was good and everyone said they really enjoyed it and would be back next year.
“The weather was mainly fine and there was a great atmosphere.”
She added that around £200 was collected in on the day with more sponsorship money yet to come.
Heather thanked the Royal Engineers Association and everyone who supported the event.
n A sponsored walk in aid of Ellie’s Fund will take place around Marine Drive on Sunday. Meet at the Sands at 10.30am.
