A NURSE who has worked at Scarborough Hospital for more than 20 years is celebrating her retirement.

Chris Walpole, of Peasholm, was bid a fond farewell from her friends on Holly Ward after her many years’ service.

Having trained at Scarborough in 1978, Chris worked away and came back in 1989.

She worked in the orthopaedic rehabilitation ward at Cross Lane then moved to Scarborough Hospital’s Cherry ward, followed more recently by Holly ward.

She said: “It’s had its ups and downs like any job, but it’s always been lovely being with the patients.

“It’s been great to be able to offer support to people when they need it.”

Chris, 55, added that her colleagues had been lovely to work with and that many of them had been together a long time.

She is now looking forward to a trip to New Zealand, followed by a restful Christmas and New Year.

She then plans to look for a part-time job at the start of next year.

Chris said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I always said I’d retire at 55 and I’ve stuck with that.”
