A civic reception has been held to honour Scarborough and Whitby’s Street Angels.

Police inspector Graeme Kynman and Jo Ireland from Scarborough Council thanked the Street Angels, and Mayor Cllr Simon Green welcomed eight new recruits and their leaders Pastor Paul Abell and Brian Ward.

The Street Angels were launched in February 2009 in Scarborough and July 2012 in Whitby.

Street Angels arevolunteers who improve the safety of those who use bars, restaurants, cinemas and public transport during busy periods, offering a calming influence in the night time economy areas.

The Street Angels build up relationships with the public and if they identify someone in difficulty they offer assistance, calling on the appropriate services for help if needed.
