A Scarborough girl who is bravely battling cerebral palsy has won a top accolade in recognition of her being an “inspiration” to others.

India Robertson, aged 11, from Ebberston, was awarded bronze for achievement in this year’s Stagecoach Inspiration Awards.

The awards recognise, acknowledge and reward young people from all walks of life who have faced adversity, demonstrated bravery, shown courage, cared for others and are good role models for young people.

After using a wheelchair for many years, India is now able to walk using a frame following a £60,000 spinal operation in the US.

Maria Arnold, principal of Stagecoach Scarborough, said: “India has remained positive, cheerful and uncomplaining throughout. She is determined to take part in as much as she can, so much so that within weeks of her operation she was on stage taking part in Joseph at the Futurist. India’s fortitude, determination and sunny smile are an inspiration to us all.”
