Members of the public are invited to a meeting about Community Ownership, which is being held at Yorkshire Coast College on Thursday October 25.
The meeting will start at 6pm in the Business Gateway suite at the college in Lady Edith’s Drive.
The event, organised by the Yorkshire Coast Social Enterprise Network, will feature a number of guest speakers who will describe their various projects and experiences.
These include Nigel Lowthrop, who has extensive experience of taking woodland into community ownership, and Sarah Stead who will describe the Esk Energy experience.
Also present will be Jo Ireland from Scarborough Borough Council who will present the latest news on Community Asset Transfer across the borough.
Social enterprise adviser David Hassall explained: “Community Ownership is an enterprise model which uses the energy and creativity of a whole community to establish a model of mutuals, cooperatives and social enterprise in order to provide or save a range of services which are important to communities.
“All this with limited cost to the taxpayer and creating a strong social business that will be the centre of a community for years to come.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of The Beach, a social enterprise initiative of Yorkshire Coast Homes.
Further information is available from Social Enterprise Advisers Tim Damer on 07833 477128 or David Hassall on 07799 646300.
If you are planning to attend, please call Tim or David, or email email@example.com
This will help organisers get an idea of numbers so they can plan for refreshments.
There will be plenty of time for questions from the floor throughout the meeting and at the end.
Those attending are welcome to bring copies of their own promotional material, brochures, leaflets and business cards for display on the evening.
A separate table will be available for this purpose. The meeting is due to finish at 8.30pm.
