SCARBOROUGH people are invited by Macmillan Cancer Support to get training and join the Great North Run 2012.

The charity still has some guaranteed places still available if you have not received the a place through the official ballot.

The 13-mile half marathon will take place on Sunday September 16.

Fundraising manager Sally Millington, who has done the run herself in the past, said: “Yes it is tough, but the support that you get on route from the crowds, cheering points and other runners makes it an incredible experience.

“People hand out jelly babies, oranges and drinks and lots of encouragement! It’s a fantastic achievement and definitely worth the hours of training.”

She added: “By signing up to run as part of Team Macmillan we’ll be there for you from the start, with a dedicated team providing both fundraising and training advice.”
