Scarborough Athletic boss Steve Kittrick has thrown the gauntlet down to his players on the eve of the new Evo-Stik North season.
Boro kick off their campaign at home to Bamber Bridge on Saturday, and heading into the game Kittrick has just one eventuality on his mind.
His ultimate aim is to haul Boro out of their current division and into the Evo-Stik Premier in time for the move to their new home at the Weaponness-based Scarborough Leisure Village.
He is more than aware that it will be a tough task, but the former Guiseley gaffer is in positive mood.
“Our aim is to get out of this league this season,” said Kittrick.
“It is obvious that we are not going to get it all our own way, but it is about how we respond when things don’t work out.
“We might suffer a dip in August, at Christmas or towards the end of the season, but it is vital that we all stick together as a squad and as a club.
“At the moment we have a great togetherness and a very good dressing room, which can earn you 20 points over a season.
“Those 20 points could help us to the title.
“We have taken our time over bringing these lads together and hopefully we have got it right.
“Over the season a few may suddenly become something they currently don’t seem to be, but we’ll tackle that at the time.
“I’m going to have to be ruthless as a manager, but whatever I do I’ll be doing it for the benefit of Scarborough Athletic.
“My decisions won’t be about personality clashes or anything like that, they will be made for football reasons.
“I just want to go out there from Saturday with this team and win this league.
“It is now up to the players to help me and this club do exactly that.”
