Scarborough Ladies stunned runaway Yorkshire League Division Five North leaders Selby 2nds by ending their unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory.

Lilly Thompson shone in the opening exchanges to keep Scarborough out of trouble.

Scarborough took hold of the game after this and a flurry of passes involving Joanna Shepherd and Alex Seymour fed Harriet Stephenson.

Her strike was saved, but captain Kelly Brown followed up and dinked the ball home to make it 1-0.

Goalkeeper Maddy Hill then came to the fore, making a string of fine saves as Selby searched for parity.

Scarborough pushed on in the second half, with Stephenson firing just wide and Lattia Emms nearly getting on the end of a defence-splitting pass from right midfield.

Stephenson then produced her signature reverse strike through the keeper’s pads to wrap up the victory for Scarborough.

Scarborough Mens’ 2nds made it four wins on the bounce when they beat Bradford 5ths 6-3 on the road.

Giving debuts to Niko Masucci, Charlie and Keith Meatheringham, Scarborough made the dream start as Jonny Scott threaded through a wonderful through-ball to Charlie Meatheringham, who showed great composure and finished well.

Scott was then rewarded for his movement as he struck two goals to make it 3-0.

Charlie Meatheringham continued his fine debut with a second to make it 4-0 at the break.

The second half saw Bradford adapt to a more attacking approach as they search for an early goal.

Laurence Webb made a series of great saves in goal, but Scarborough were unable to hold out as in a matter of minutes they managed to pull it back to 4-2.

The defence of Ben Richardson, Ben Hoggarth, Paul Whatling and Michael Waterfield kept Bradford at bay after this with crucial tackles and clearances.

As the second half continued Scarborough where explosive on the break as Jacob Warters added a fifth for Scarborough with an exquisite reverse chip.

Scott sealed the victory and his hat-trick with a composed strike.

This weekend sees all three teams in action with the Mens’ 1sts travelling to play Ben Rhydding 4ths.

The Men’s 2nds host leaders Leeds Adel 4ths, while the Ladies are to away to City of York 7ths.
