Leanne Wilford woke up this morning as Miss Scarborough and District 2011.

She fought off competition from 13 other finalists and wowed the judges at the glamorous final last night.

Today Leanne, of Malton, will perform her first official duty, at an Evening News photo shoot.

“I honestly never expected to hear my name called out,” she said. “I didn’t think I would get in the final 10. I entered for the experience and to gain confidence. I think I’ve definitely done that.”

She is now looking forward to the Miss England final and the chance to qualify for the Miss World final, which is being hosted in London later this year.

She also took home a year’s free gym membership, a gown, a year of free hair and beauty treatment, a professional photography portfolio, a fish manicure and meal vouchers, as well as the Miss Scarborough sash and crown.

Organiser and judge Diane Yalezo said: “It’s been a fantastic evening. All the hard work has paid off.

“Leanne is a real natural beauty and I’m sure she will go on to do very well at Miss England.

“In my eyes all of the girls were winners.”

After being introduced to the lively audience, the girls battled it out in an eco round, which saw them parade on stage in their own handmade outfits made from recycled material.

Bottle tops, bin liners and kitchen roll were among the materials used by the innovative girls.

The eco round was followed by the glitz and glamour evening wear round, before the 14 contestants were whittled down to 10.

A final five were then chosen after an interview round before the winner was announced in a tense finale.

Jordan Mason won the Miss Eco award for her home-made outfit. Louise Vickers was Miss Popularity, after receiving the most text votes in the run-up to the event.

Anneka Rogers was crowned Miss Charity, after she raised £851 for Martin House Children’s Hospice. In total, the girls raised more than £2,300 for the hospice.

The best dress award was won by Elizabeth Hakings.

Fitness instructor Gavin Fitton was named as Mr Scarborough.

Compere was Lisa Powell, of Miss England.
