The Labour Group’s feelings were that at a time when most of the country is still suffering from the enforced austerity cuts introduced by the Conservative government, and when most workers are still receiving no increase whatsoever in their pay packets - and some even having pay cuts, to vote for their own allowances to rise would be immoral.

The increase in allowances was voted in by the majority of county councillors, but the Labour Group will continue to fight for workers rights to fair pay and conditions and to attack the zero hours contracts which many workers have to endure.

County Cllr Tony Randerson, Eastfield and Osgodby Division, pledged to donate his increase to the Little Foot Trust charity, for holiday trips to Ireland.
