Donations should be voluntary

I READ with interest your article on ‘charity collectors’, and I would like to tell you of an incident last weekend.

I was leaving a local supermarket when I saw a lady collecting for the Salvation Army. As I was going passed she ‘shook’ the collecting tin in front of me, I carried on walking out of the store.

Firstly, I have no objections to donating money to charities as they do an excellent job, but you should be able to do it voluntarily and not feel pressured.

Secondly, I thought it was illegal now to ‘shake’ collecting tins in front of you.
