Library lunchtime show

THE life and music of Edvard Grieg take centre stage at tomorrow’s lunchtime concert at the library.

The Last Spring, which is part of the town’s literature festival, will feature pianist Frank James, Phillip Mindenhall as Grieg and Maria Billington as Grieg’s wife Nina.

It is in the form of an authentic dialogue between the Griegs.

Edvard Grieg was one of the most popular composers of the 19th century; his music was inspired by the majestic mountains and beautiful fijords of Norway.

“One can be transported to the spectacular scenery of the composer’s homeland with every bar of music,” says Maria.

The concert is a memorial to Vincent Billington, who wrote the story with the cooperation of the Grieg museum in Bergen, Norway.

Vincent took part in the BBC World Service biography of Grieg and he and Maria performed The Last Spring in Norway, so it will be an emotional presentation for Maria. The concert starts at 12.30pm and admission is by donation on the door.
