SCARBOROUGH Lions have been spreading some festive cheer with their annual fundraising sleigh collection.

The sleigh made its first appearance at Proudfoots in Newby on Monday and will be going round Burniston and Cloughton on Friday from 6pm to 8.30pm.

President Gareth Jones said: “The sleigh was there for the full day and people were very responsive.

“Father Christmas was there and he had some great reactions from the children. They were coming up and telling him what they’d like for Christmas.”

Mr Jones added that the Lions are hoping the weather will be kinder than last year, when snow and ice meant the sleigh pull had to be abandoned for a couple of nights.

He said: “The weather was horrendous. Going round the villages was just impossible at times.”

All the money raised will be passed on to good causes, with the majority going to Scarborough charities.

This year’s schedule is as follows: December 9, Burniston/Cloughton; December 13, Osgodby; December 14, Scalby; December 15, Proudfoots in Eastfield; December 16, Seamer and Irton village; December 17, Morrisons; December 19, Crossgates; December 20, Sainsburys in Falsgrave, December 21, Proudfoots in Seamer; December 22, Sainsburys in Falsgrave; December 23, Morrisons.

The sleigh will go around the villages between 6-8.30pm and will be at supermarkets 9am-6pm.
