Charity evening is a big success

A CHARITY evening at Seamer Sports Association has given a big boost to two good causes.

The event, which featured a darts match, drinks raffle and collection of 5ps and 20ps, raised a total of 760. This was split between Martin House children's hospice and an appeal for injured Scarborough soldier Tom Lawlor.

Jackie Burrows, who organised the event, said: "It went really well. We had a good laugh on the night and everyone enjoyed it."

She also gave a big thank you to all those who had supported the event, including Claytons Tea Room, Lifeboat Fish Bar, Mimosas in Ayton, the Mayfield in Seamer, Silks, Pattisons, Metcalfs, Pat at the fancy goods shop, Chris Sellars and Tan Express.

George Sowersby, a member of the Scarborough Friends of Martin House, said: "We would like to thank Seamer Sports Association for their generosity. We are very grateful indeed."

Martin House, at Boston Spa, is Yorkshire's only hospice for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Bill Chatt, who coordinates Tom Lawlor's fund, said: "We are really grateful for this donation, which shows just how much the people of Scarborough think of one of their own. People have really taken Tom to their hearts."
