A YOUNG Scarborough woman is on top of the world after losing an 11-and-a-half-stone.

Emma Dixon, 21, says she is nearly “half the woman she was” and has never felt better.

A year ago, Emma weighed 27st 7lb, and a chance meeting at work was what inspired her to change her life.

She said: “I work as a bra fitter at Debenhams and a customer told me she was going to the Weight Watchers ball.

“She was a size 12 and told me she used to be a 22, and had decided to lose weight after getting stuck in a minicab.

“Something just clicked in my mind and I went to my first meeting that same day.”

Emma said she was incredibly nervous when she walked into the Weight Watchers meeting at Westborough Church.

She said: “I thought it was going to be like the Little Britain sketch! But everyone was really friendly.”

Emma started eating healthily and began losing weight straight away. One week she even lost a staggering 13lb - just under a stone.

Her weight loss continued at 3lb to 4lb a week and a year later, she is well on her way to her goal weight of 12st.

Emma said: “It’s actually been really enjoyable. I’ve tried lots of new foods and have been cooking more.

“I walk everywhere now. Before I used to be really lethargic and would just sit at home.”

She is also enjoying being to shop for clothes more suited to her age, instead of having to rely on plus-size ranges.

The former Graham School pupil is now looking forward to wearing a dress for the first time since her prom, aged 16.

She said: “It’s changed my life. People at work say I stand up taller now.

“Everyone has been very supportive and they’re so happy for me.”
