SCARBOROUGH has been named as the best town in Britain and Ireland at an awards ceremony in London.
The town beat off stiff competition from Cambridge and Chester to pick up the accolade from the Academy of Urbanism at Church House – next to Westminster Abbey.
This success completes a major hat-trick for Scarborough - it was crowned winner at the European Enterprise Awards in May and topped the poll as the most enterprising place in Britain in the Enterprising Britain 2008 Awards.
