Scarborough Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash involving a motorbike and a car in the town centre this afternoon.

Officers and ambulance crews attended the scene in Northway at the roundabout, which is the junction of Northway, Columbus Ravine and Gladstone Road, at around 3.15pm.

A male motorcyclist suffered a serious ankle injury and was taken to Scarborough Hospital in the collision which involved a black Honda X11 and a black Ford Fiesta.

The motorbike approached the roundabout from the direction of Columbus Ravine intending to turn right onto Gladstone Road, while the Fiesta was travelling along Northway intending to go straight ahead towards Columbus Ravine.

The crash happened when the biker made his turn.

Traffic Sgt Richard Parsons said: “We are appealing for witnesses or anybody who recalls seeing the car or motorcycle in the moments leading up to the collision to come forward and assist the investigation.”

Traffic measures were put in place while police cleared the scene.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact TC Gareth Gilleard at Scarborough Police on 101, quoting the reference NYP-09032013-0314.
