Update on market overhaul

A drop-in session is taking place on Tuesday at the Market at 3.30pm.

There will be a display of plans and artists’ impressions as well as a first look at proposed new branding and marketing ideas

Councillor Bill Chatt, Scarborough Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health and Housing, said: “This event is an opportunity for people to see where we are with the market redevelopment and to give us their feedback on what we are proposing.

“We have been very encouraged by the feedback we have had so far during the consultations and this is the next step. We hope lots of people will come along and see the exciting things we have in mind to transform their market for the future.”

Scarborough Council and the University of Hull are partners in the transformation project, made possible thanks to a £2.7 million grant from the Coastal Communities Fund, administered by the Big Lottery Fund.

The historic market building is to get a complete makeover, during which a new mezzanine floor will be added, to create space for new shops, offices and a café.

The physical alterations will be joined by two online projects, designed to bring the market into the 21st Century.
