Walker freed from wet mud

COASTGUARD crews had a race against an incoming tide to free a walker who had got trapped in mud between Filey and Flamborough.

Crews from Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Burniston were sent to Reighton Gap after the alarm was raised at 4pm on Sunday.

The walker, who is believed to be in his mid-50s and from Bridlington, had tried to climb the cliff to escape the incoming tide but got stuck up to his knees in wet mud, with waves breaking over him.

A member of Filey Coastguard managed to pull him free and he was taken to Scarborough Hospital for checks.
