Looking to bounce back from cup defeat

Friday night’s cup final was a great experience for everyone at the club, the only thing missing was the result.

I honestly think we would have secured that if we’d have had a full compliment of players available.

Jamie Price pulled his hamstring two days before, Dave Merris and Glenn Matthews were cup-tied and Shane Killock was also injured.

These were all players that have played at a higher level and could have brought in that game management in the final moments.

We had two outfield players, who were not at 100% and a goalkeeper on the bench, so when Callum Robinson got a knock we were always going to be struggling.

I think Marine only had about 15 minutes in the game, we controlled the rest of it.

They had the 10 minutes after the break and then the final few minutes after Dean Lisles was sent off.

They had fresh options on their bench as well, which helped them when we were reduced to 10 men.

I don’t show a lot of emotion on the bench, but I can tell you that I was absolutely gutted by the defeat.

I dealt with that in my own way.

The lads were also gutted in the changing room after, I just told them to remember that feeling and to make sure that they don’t feel it again.

There are a lot of conversations to have now, but I have an objective, which is to get out of this league and do it properly.

We have to discuss the budget and the structure to back that up.

The fans we had on Friday night were absolutely amazing and that brought a reaction out of the players.

I want our crowd to be like that every week, but I want to give them reward in the shape of results and a good brand of football.

Things need to be in place and then we’ll be able to push on.

I want to go out and win this league next season, but unless everything is in place at the club, it will be a tall order.

Finally, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the club in the 2015-15 season. I look forward to seeing you all in the new campaign.
