A SCARBOROUGH woman was “chuffed” to bits after winning a dining trip on a steam train.
Shirley Holdsworth had entered the competition in Yorkshire Life magazine and was thrilled when a letter arrived telling her she’d won the £495 trip.
Mrs Holdsworth and her husband Mike were treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner aboard The Waverley, which is pulled by The Scots Guardsman steam engine.
The couple travelled from York to Carlisle and back, enjoying a silver service four-course meal on the return journey.
Mrs Holdsworth, of Osgodby Lane, who is a retired secretary, said: “It was absolutely out of this world. I never expected anything like it in all my life.
“It was very plush inside, a bit like the Orient Express, with lovely upholstered seats and tables laid out with tablecloths.”
She added that her husband was also delighted with the trip as he is a lifelong railway enthusiast.
Mrs Holdsworth said: “He was born at Seamer Junction House, which belonged to his grandparents, so he has always been interested in the railways.
“It’s his birthday next week too so it was a real treat. I didn’t really expect to win, so this was a lovely surprise.”
