THE Magic of the Musicals returns to the YMCA Theatre this week. It will be “a wonderful evening celebrating the finest and best loved songs from the West End stage and the bright lights of Broadway”, according to director James Aconley.
James says: “For the last two years, the show has sold out every night and the standing ovations we have received have been thrilling.
“This year, we have brought together some of the finest voices from all around the country to sing some of the greatest musical theatre songs. It should be a very high quality and entertaining show. Tickets are selling well – if you like musicals you should be there,” says James.
He says that “fantastic” show-stopping songs from some of the greatest musical theatre songwriters will be sung by himself, Rebekah Kelly, Nathan Jenkins, Kerry O’Dowd and Tamsin Killen.
“The show will provide you with two hours of the great musical classics as well as a selection from some of the latest shows such as Little Shop of Horrors and Wicked”.
Musicals to be featured include My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, Chess, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera and Jekyll and Hyde.
Thirty children from Stagecoach will sing and dance in a Mamma Mia section. Principal Nicky Sweeney-Chisholm says: “Our students have taken part for the last two years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a fantastic show and a great experience for them”.
The Magic of the Musicals can be seen at 7.30pm Friday and Saturday.
