FURTHER details have been confirmed for the Rotary Club of Scarborough Cavaliers’ dragon boat races.
The charity event will take place at Wykeham Lakes on Sunday June 10th 2012 from 10am to 4pm.
Teams of 17 per dragon boat, each sponsored by local organisations, will paddle their crafts in a series of races culminating, after several heats, in a grand final.
A minimum of 15 teams are needed to form a viable event.
Spokesman Peter Howgate said: “For companies (team ‘owners’) this is an opportunity to enhance local awareness, a team building possibility and a fun day out to which employees, family and friends can be invited.
“For paddlers, a fun challenge and the opportunity to raise funds for the team owners chosen charity as well as to join with others to contribute to the work of the Rainbow Centre.”
Team members are each expected to raise £50 in sponsorship to be donated to be split between the Rainbow Centre in Scarborough, a minimum of 20 per cent, and local charities nominated by their boat, a maximum of 80 per cent.
The 2011 event raised almost £14,000 for charity including £8,000 for a children’s play area at the new children’s outpatients unit at Scarborough Hospital with the rest going to charities of the sponsor’s choice.
