TWO Scarborough women are gearing up for the cycle ride of their lives as they embark on a fundraising trip to Africa.
Community midwife Jane Millar and podiatrist Jackie Raw are setting off tomorrow to raise money for the David Gordon Memorial Hospital, a 100-bed mission hospital situated in Livingstonia, Northern Malawi.
Both women have pledged to raise a minimum of £2,500 each and all funds will pay for vital building projects, refurbishment, improving the water supply and installing solar power, as well as training healthcare workers.
Jackie said: “We’re really excited – it’s a challenge and an adventure. We’ve been training hard and doing lots of longer rides over the moors.”
The pair will cycle 280 miles over five days through traditional villages and tropical forests.
