Fire crews from Malton were last night (May 2) called out to rescue a man who had fallen into the River Derwent.

A member of the public had got hold of the man and kept him safe until the crews arrived to help him into a road ambulance.

The incident happened at 9.51pm on Railway Street.

Malton crews had earlier been called to give first aid to a woman who hurt her head after falling off her mobility scooter in Norton, near Malton, until medical professionals attended.
