A man has been charged following a serious assault over the weekend which has left a 50-year-old in a critical condition in hospital.
Police investigating the serious assault in Somerset Terrace have charged a 22-year-old man with grievous bodily harm without intent.
He is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court today.
The charge follows a incident among passers by opposite Scholar’s Bar at around 11pm on Saturday.
The 50-year-old victim remains in a critical condition at Hull Royal Infirmary.
Somerset Terrace was closed to traffic and pedestrians throughout the day yesterday as police investigated the scene.
