A man who climbed up a tree to rescue his cat ended up having to be rescued himself after he became stuck.

Fire and rescue crews in Scarborough received a call just before midnight yesterday regarding the incident on Quarry Mount.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We do not normally respond to calls of cats stuck up trees unless they are made by the RSPCA but in this instance we did attend and discovered a man who was unable to get down from the tree.

“We used a 9m ladder to rescue the man and seeing as we were there we attempted also to rescue the cat. Unfortunately, this resulted in the cat climbing further up the tree.”

Crews came away from the incident just after midnight.
