Police have officially named the man who died near the Grand Hotel.

The man who died has been officially named as Ralph Charles Leyland, aged 36 from St Helens, Merseyside.

The inquest into his death on the morning of Sunday August 7 has been open and adjourned today (Wednesday 10 August).

Police are treating his death as unexplained and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to his injuries and subsequent death.

North Yorkshire Police were called at around 6.30am on Sunday by a member of the public who found a man with serious injuries on a terraced area between Foreshore Road and the Grand Hotel in Scarborough.

Police and paramedics attended the incident, but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three men remain on police bail while enquiries continue.
