MEMBERS of the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue team braved the harsh weather to host their annual Ravenscar Coastal Half Marathon fundraiser over the weekend.
The demanding all-terrain event starts from Ravenscar Village Hall and runs south to Cloughton along a combination of roads, public footpaths and the old Whitby-Scarborough railway line before returning along the scenic cliff path to Ravenscar.
The event attracted 90 entries despite the adverse conditions.
The race was started by Geoff Mortimer of Construction Marine Ltd, Leeds, who sponsored the event and presented the two winners with prizes.
Andrew Huddleston won the men’s race with a time of 1:31:57, while local resident Cathy Wood was the women’s winner in 1:50:35.
For a number of runners this was their first event since the previous week’s London Marathon and for one, Anthony Corbett, it provided the opportunity to present the team with a cheque for £75 raised in sponsorship for London when he was running on behalf of Mountain Rescue.
