MASTERCHEF star Sara Danesin Medio is on her way to Scarborough for a special cookery event.
The 2011 finalist will present an Italian cookery demonstration at Scarborough College’s New Hall Theatre on November 16, from 7.15pm.
Sara became a familiar face to “foodies” all over the country when she battled her way through to the final of the BBC1 show, which was watched by nearly nine million people.
The former nurse, who has just opened a dining club at her own home in York, says she is looking forward to coming to Scarborough.
She said: “I really am very excited about it. I know Scarborough very well and it’s always a pleasure to visit.
“It’s a very pretty town and there will be some beautiful fish for me to cook with.”
The show will feature pasta making, with Sara picking volunteers from the audience to give her a hand.
There will also be a focus on fish, due to the seaside location and availability of good quality, fresh ingredients.
Sara said: “I want to pass on the message that everybody can do it and that you can make an inexpensive meal that’s also good for your health.
“I also want to empower people to do different things in their cooking.”
During the event, Sara will also tell the audience about her Masterchef experience and how it has changed her life.
Her new dining club – the first of its kind in the area – has been a huge success and is already booked up until April.
Sara said: “I love it! So far I’ve fed 400 customers. People have come from Cambridge, Birmingham and Scotland.”
She is also enjoying showing the rest of the country what this region has to offer, saying: “I love Yorkshire – I’m proud to be here.”
