At this time of year there are not as many club competitions being played each week.

This is a great time to experiment with different playing formats to help change the way you think on the course and help you to become more positive ready for next season.

Singles Matchplay

This will help you to become more aggressive when playing as you are trying to beat your opponent not the course.

How to play this game: When playing matchplay you earn a point for every hole you win from your opponent.

Foursome

This will help you to change the way you think about each position you are faced with as you will be discussing each shot with your partner.

How to play this game: Two players form a team and hit alternate shots at each hole until they hole out.

One player tees off at the even holes and one on the odd holes.

This format is played under matchplay rules.

Texas Scramble

Similar to foursomes but you will have more players to discuss each shot with.

How to play this game: Played in groups of three of four. All players drive and then select the best shot and mark it.

Everyone then hits the next shot from this point.

Repeat procedure with each shot until you hole out.

Worst ball

This game will give you confidence that you can play to your handicap. Playing this format you will definitely be reducing your handicap in the forthcoming season.

How to play this game: Play two balls and only count the ball with the higher score on each hole and see if you can play to your handicap.
