n Scarborough dance star Matt Flint will next month be jetting off to Iceland to be a judge on the Icelandic version of the show. He doesn’t speak the language so will be joined by an interpreter.
SCARBOROUGH dancer Matt Flint made a last-minute appearance on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend to stand in for injured pro Artem Chigvintsev.
Matt, who shot to fame after winning So You Think You Can Dance earlier this year, has been working behind the scenes on the hit BBC show as a choreographer.
But he stepped out in front of the cameras on the Sunday night show to take Artem’s place in the male professional dance.
The Russian pro was not able to dance, having hurt his back on Saturday afternoon and battled through his routine with partner Holly Valance on Saturday night.
Matt said: “Artem got though the duet, but was in a lot of pain.
“I was asked to step in at the last minute so I didn’t really get a rehearsal, just one quick run-through backstage.
“I’d done the choreography, so I knew the dance. It went well – considering the circumstances!
“I was pleased with the outcome and I’ve had some nice comments from people.”
Matt added that Artem has been in a lot of pain and was going to have MRI scans taken yesterday.
He said: “We’ve all got our fingers crossed for him next week.”
Matt added that he is enjoying working on the show.
He said: “Bruce is lovely – he’s a legend. We had a little tap dance in the corridor the other day! Everyone is really nice and there’s a great atmosphere.”
Matt is also running dance workshops across the country with his own company Happy Feet.
