SCARBOROUGH school children enjoyed a VIP tour of the Town Hall after being invited for a visit by the Mayor.
Around 23 year six pupils from Cayton School were given a guided tour of the mayor’s parlour and council chamber.
They had been invited by Scarborough Mayor Cllr John Blackburn, who is also the chairman of the governors at Cayton School.
Year six class teacher Dee McCulloch said: “It was a wonderful trip for the pupils.
“It was a nice opportunity for them to see their governor John Blackburn in his work capacity.
“They had prepared questions to ask him in advance, and learnt a great deal about the history of Scarborough mayors. They were particularly interested in learning all about the mace and its history.
“Everyone had a go at sitting in the mayor’s chair too.
“It was a terrific day and all the pupils were fascinated by everything the mayor had to say.”
Three of the youngsters were designated reporters for the day, making notes so they could write up the visit for the school’s paper.
