THE next public meeting to discuss the future of Newby and Scalby Library will be held at the library on Tuesday, starting at 7pm.
Since the announcement was made by North Yorkshire County Council to review the network of libraries, local councillors have been working behind the scenes to ensure that some level of library service remains within the villages.
County councillor, Andrew Backhouse, said “I am pleased that Newby and Scalby Library has been classified as a category 2 Library.
At least this means that a minimum level of service will be supported by the county council, with an opportunity for volunteers to support any additional hours of opening that they wish. I hope that as many people as possible attend the meeting to hear about the emerging opportunities for our library.”
Cllr Derek Bastiman added: “I am encouraged by the enthusiasm of the county council officers towards our library, and I hope that some of the ideas put forward to enhance the service will be welcomed by our residents.”
