SCARBOROUGH men have the chance to take part in their own Race for Life-type event next month.
The 5K men-only run, in aid of Cancer Research and now in its second year, will take place on Father’s Day, Sunday June 19 at Rowntree Park in York
All funds raised on the day will specifically fund vital research into prostate and male cancers at Yorkshire Cancer Research’s York University laboratory.
Organiser Brian Hughes, 57, said: “We did really well last year and raised a lot of money for male cancer research as well as highlighting the fact that lads are still falling way behind women when it comes to recognising and getting help for cancer early.
“This year we’re really keen to up the ante and get at least 2,000 men taking part and we’re hoping to attract some of the husbands, boyfriends and partners of ladies doing a women-only 5K at the racecourse on the same day to encourage a bit of friendly rivalry!”
The event starts by the River Ouse from Rowntree Park in York at 9.30am, crosses the Millennium Bridge and continues along the side of the river to Museum Gardens before finishing back at Rowntree Park.
Race entry is £14 for UK Athletic Club members or £16 for non members. Runners must be aged over 17 years old to take part.
Entry forms are available online at www.yorkknavesmireharriers.co.uk or by calling Mr Hughes on 01904 656427.
