A TALK about the Hilsborough Disaster featured at the Filey Men’s Lunch Club’s meeting.
Detective Sergeant David Barron of South Yorkshire police spoke about the football disaster in 1989, when he was on duty.
In his talk, which club members found fascinating, he described the build-up to the tragedy, the decisions which were taken by senior police officers as the situation developed.
He also talked about the aftermath, with the bodies of 96 Liverpool fans lying in the gymnasium and the ensuing Taylor report into the disaster, which saw the introduction of all-seater stadiums.
At the club’s next meeting, on Monday, February 7, club member John Fawcett will present a quiz.
