A GROUP of youngsters are swapping the shores of Scarborough for a building site in Mexico as they embark on a charity house-building mission.

Thirteen teenagers and four adults are flying out tomorrow to Tijuana where they will build a home for a Mexican family.

The Rebuild Mexico project has been set up by Urban Saints, a Christian-based charity. Before setting off the Scarborough team has had to raise a total of £20,000 to fund the trip.

Money was collected through a variety of fundraising events including a car wash, donations and a quiz night.

Andrea Smith, one of the Rebuild Mexico organisers, said: “We are all really looking forward to getting out there and meeting the family we are building a house for.

“We are very excited, but are preparing ourselves for the hard work that will await us in terms of building the house.

“Everyone on the team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in Scarborough who has helped us raise the money.”
