Armed with a suitcase full of outfits – including a dress made from 80 scallop shells – Miss Scarborough is ready to take on the country.

This weekend Laura Stone, 23, will take to the stage at the Riviera Centre in Torquay where she will fly the flag for Scarborough and District in her title bid to become Miss England 2013.

Despite having completed a skydive earlier this week, to raise funds for the competition charity Beauty with A Purpose, the Whitby beautician said that the nerves were only just starting to kick in.

She said: “I’m a bit nervous about meeting all of the girls - there’ll be 60 this time, and it’s going to be a huge event. But I’m looking forward to actually being there, representing the area and I’ll certainly try my hardest to bring the crown back.”

The contestants will be put through their paces in Boot Camp before rehearsals ahead of the eco dress round and Mr England final on Saturday and the evening dress and grand final showdown on Sunday.

Laura hopes to sail into the final 10 with her seashell eco dress creation.

Supporting Laura, alongside friends and family, will be regional competition organiser Diane Yalezo.

She said: “I’m very excited about the competition. I’ll be flying down on Saturday and I’m hopeful I will bring the crown back to Yorkshire. I wish Laura all the luck in the world.”
