Officers searching for missing Helmsley woman Barbara Colling have located a body.
It was found on Hawnby Moor by a member of the public at 10.45am today.
Mrs Colling’s next of kin have been informed of the discovery. However, North Yorkshire Police are not yet in a position to formally identify the body
The search for Barbara, who has been missing since January 28, has been stood down.
The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
Police have thanked the media for the extensive coverage they have given during the search and the public for their continued support.
The praise follows a weekend when volunteers turned out in force to assist with the search.
On Saturday over 130 people joined the effort with 60 to 70 turning out on Sunday.
The searches took place along the B1257 and in the Fangdale Beck area.
During Saturday’s search effort, a 39-year-old man from Newcastle, who is a member of the Cleveland Search and Rescue Team, was airlifted to hospital after falling into a gulley just after 1pm. He sustained severe bruising and was released after treatment. Barbara was last seen walking along the B1257 near Abbotts Hag at around 9.30am on January 28.
