Mobility scooter driver injured after lorry crash

The driver of a mobility scooter has been rushed to hospital after a collision with a lorry in the centre of Scarborough.

An ambulance took the male driver to hospital following the collision, which occurred at around 11.10am this morning.

Two fire engines and multiple police vehicles raced to the scene, which happened in Westborough just outside of the train station.

The small scooter suffered severe damage in the collision.

As the scene was cleared by police and the lorry reversed, the steering wheel and the front panel fell off the main body of the vehicle.

The injuries received by the driver of the mobility scooter are not understood to be life-threatening.

It’s not yet known how the incident occurred.
